The Tupi people, one of the main ethnic groups of Brazilian indigenous people, believe in a male supernatural being called “Curupira” that guards the forest in Tupi mythology. I crowned this BLOG with his name because I aspire the BLOG, which deals with insects as part of the nature, to play a role just like Curupira who protects the forest from the destructive habits of man.

Several hundreds of skippers (a butterfly in the family Hesperiidae) came in swarms for the nectar of the white flowers I introduced on Saturday.
Apparently, there was a mass outbreak of this species. The size of the individual butterflies is only about two thirds of that of a normal season.
I saw a large colony of Dione juno near the Museum parking lot in July; the year 2008 looks like a bumper year for butterflies here. Too bad that I am not allowed to inquire into the mechanism of these outbreaks through specimen collection.
Meanwhile, I have produced a moving image of these butterflies but am currently unable to upload it due to some line problems. I will up it when the line condition is restored.
